A Statement from the Program Committee

The paper entitled "Open Source Insecurity: Stealthily Introducing Vulnerabilities via Hypocrite Commits" by Qiushi Wu and Kangjie Lu from the University of Minnesota was accepted to and later withdrawn by the authors from the 42nd IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy (IEEE S&P'21). In this statement, the Program Committee (PC) of IEEE S&P'21 would like to comment on both the technical and ethical aspects of this paper, and reflect on how the process can be improved to prevent or mitigate some of the concerns this submission raised. We also outline the planned changes for future S&P conferences to address more generally the ethical concerns in computer security research.

You can read the full statement here.

Registration is now Open

Only one registration is required to gain access to both the symposium and workshops.

42nd IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy – Now Taking Place Virtually

The safety and well-being of all conference participants is our priority. After evaluating the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the decision has been made to transform the in-person component of the IEEE SP 2021 conference into an all-digital conference experience –IEEE SP 2021 will now be an online event. Therefore, IEEE SP 2021 will no longer take place in San Francisco, CA and will instead take place virtually. The conference dates remain the same – May 24-27, 2021. Proceedings will not be cancelled, and publications will continue as planned.

Statement on the US Government Travel Restrictions
