Call for Short Talks

The Symposium short talks session packs as many 5-minute (and possibly 1-minute) presentations and demos as possible into one fast-paced, action-packed session. These presentations can include emerging hot topics, preliminary research results, practical problems encountered by industry practitioners, lessons learned, tips and tricks, exciting data and visualizations, and other topics of interest to the Symposium community. Special consideration is given to presentations that highlight new and exciting ideas from academia and industry, those with interesting demos, and those that discuss real-life security experiences.

Time limits will be strictly enforced.

Short Talk abstracts will be published on the conference website.

Important Dates

Early Submission Deadline: Friday, April 13, 2018
Early Submission Notification: Thursday, April 26, 2018

Submissions received after April 13 will be considered on a rolling basis until the program is full.

Submission Information

Submission should be in one two categories:

Short Talks (5 min): Submit an abstract (200 words or less) and draft talk materials (e.g., slides, in PDF format). Please ensure that your talk materials reflect content that will fit within the 5-minute limit -- submissions with talk materials that do not meet this criteria will not be accepted.

Even Shorter Talks (30 sec - 1 min): This option is appropriate for making announcements or advertisements for conferences, grant programs, etc. of interest to the Symposium community. (Corporate advertisements for products or services are not eligible.) In this category, the presenter should provide one slide with the relevant information. During the symposium, the short talks chair will read provided text and point to the contact person, who will be standing at the front of the room (the contact person will not present directly). No more than 5 Even Shorter Talks will be accepted. Please submit your draft single slide, as well as a draft of the text you would like the short talks chair to announce.

All materials should be submitted to https://oakland2018.andrew.cmu.edu/.

Please note that all submissions must be made by the presenter (Short Talk) or the contact person who will attend (Even Shorter Talk). Submissions from PR firms will be rejected without review.

For additional information regarding Short Talks, please contact the Short Talks Chair at oakland18-wipchair@ieee-security.org.
