Call For Workshop Proposals

Since 1980, the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy has been the premier forum for presenting developments in computer security and electronic privacy, and for bringing together researchers and practitioners in the field. Following this story of success, in 2016 IEEE initiated the European Symposium on Security and Privacy (EuroS&P), which is organized every year in a European city. The 9th EuroS&P edition will be held on 8-12, 2024 at the University of Vienna and is organized by the University of Vienna supported by SBA Research and TU Wien. Pre-conference workshops will take place on Monday, July 8th, 2024 , and post-conference workshops on Friday, July 12th, 2024 .

A workshop associated with IEEE EuroS&P‘24 is meant to enrich the program of the main conference, thereby providing a forum to address a specific topic at the forefront of security and privacy research.

Submissions of workshop proposals must reach the workshop chairs by the deadline indicated below, and must be done through the following submission website: https://submission.intellisec.de/eurosp24-workshops

If proceedings are planned, the default option offered is publication through IEEE Xplore in a volume accompanying the main IEEE EuroS&P’24 proceedings.

Workshop registration will be done together with the main conference, allowing workshop-only registrations as well. Support for each accepted workshop includes rooms and catering (coffee break and lunch) for the day of the workshop. Additionally, one “free-pass” will be provided that can be used by the chairs of each accepted workshop as they see fit. Other expenses must be covered by the individual workshops.

Workshop Proposal Submission

Workshop Proposals should be submitted as .pdf documents, and should include the following information:

• Workshop title and acronym
• Abstract, outlining the aim and scope of the workshop
• Proposed format (e.g., research-oriented, hands-on exercises, hot talks)
• Planned activities (e.g., invited speakers, panels)
• [if applicable] Expected number of submissions, paper length (in IEEE conference proceedings format)
• Expected number of attendees (provide a justification)
• Program chair(s), and if available, tentative program and organization committees
• Biographical sketch for each main organizer, describing relevant qualifications in research and conference/workshop organizing experience
• Past history of the workshop, if any, including the number of submissions, number of accepted papers, and number of registered attendees for the most recent edition of the workshop and last year’s website
• Draft CFP articulating the scope and topics covered by the workshop
• Plan for the review process and the publication of proceedings

When submitting your workshop proposal, alongside the PDF, you should specify:

• The chairs of the workshop (name, email, affiliation) as the “authors” of the submitted proposal;
  • Note: the IEEE EuroS&P’s workshop chairs reserve the right to contact the “proposed chairs” of each workshop to confirm whether they are truly intending to chair a given workshop.
• Whether the workshop is meant to be held before or after the conference (you can mark both options if you have no preference);
  • Note: specifying only one option may reduce the likelihood of acceptance if multiple strong workshops compete for the same day.
• Whether the workshop is supposed to be a half-day or full-day workshop (you can mark both options if you have no preference).
  • Note: “full-day” workshops must be appropriately motivated in the respective proposals.

Proposal Evaluation Criteria

In order of importance:

• Quality and completeness of proposal
• Timeliness and suitability for the EuroS&P community
• [for workshop with a history] Diversity of the program and authors
• The novelty/differences w.r.t. other workshops in the security & privacy landscape
• Interest, impact, and relevance of the topic
• Anticipated attendance level
• Organizers experience

We especially encourage submissions that address global aspects of computer security and privacy, including issues particular to parts of the world and communities that are often neglected.
