Policy on the usage of AI by reviewers

CSF adheres to the ERC policy regarding the usage of AI for reviewing.

This policy is based on two keys principles:

• confidentiality and
• non-delegation of the reviewing task.

In particular, for confidentiality reasons, the reviewers are not allowed to copy-paste any part of the submissions to a cloud-based AI tool.

Moreover, reviewers are not allowed to use an AI system (even a local, privacy-preserving one) to

• summarise the submission to avoid reading it in full or
• provide any form of assessment of the merits of the submission.

Neither principle is violated where reviewers use an AI system solely to access information or improve language. For example, reviewers may use an AI system to

• polish the language or to check grammar and formulation of their reviews,
• search for information on the topic of a submission.
