Dear Readers,

There has been more news stories about computer security topics than I have been able to keep track of this fall. Hacking, misconfiguration, extortion, mathematical errors, communication protocol faults ... really, there is something for everyone. It seems that the only thing saving us from complete disaster is the sheer number of computers and users. Long may we hover under the radar.

The ongoing problems show why security research is more important than ever. Fortunately, there is a conference for almost every aspect of security and privacy. Peruse our calendar and plan to attend, learn, and contribute.
